Entitled….Girlbomb: A Halfway Homeless Memoir by Janice Erlbaum.
If you are interested in reading about young sex, drinking and drugs galore, this is the book to read. Not that I am into that sort of trash, however, I had heard many good things about this writer and I read her blog at http://girlbomb.typepad.com/ almost daily. I don’t want to give the story away, but this chick went through hell and back for a good four years or so and look where she is today – I tip my hat to you Girlbomb – Congratulations and the best to you at BUST magazine as well.
I’ll be adding my post for the Mom Writer’s Talk Radio Blog Tour in a few days which my co-host Alana and I are putting together for our internet/podcast radio show with the first book ,The White Rose by mom author Jean Hanff Korelitz – lookin’ good!
Ok, I need to check out for now. My four year daughter, Anna has a pre-op appointment today as she is having surgery next friday on her teeth – poor kid. So, I’ll be back soon….have a good one y’all.

were AWESOME!
Ok, this mama is up on her soapbox, braggin’ it up, but, WOW, it was SO cool!!
Last night my second oldest son, Nick, who is a senior in high school presented his senior project at our community town hall. He decided to learn how to play the electric guitar in November 05 and put together two bands (one with some friends and one with his two younger brothers). They have practiced for the past four months and I am SO happy that I remembered the freekin’ video camera so grandma and papa Knighton and grandma and grandpa Schmitt can see and hear Nick singing – that’s right – SINGING!
In this pic below Nick is on the acoustic guitar singing Green Day’s "Good Riddance" (Time of your Life) for his closing song on his own.
They played and sang Green Day, The Ramones, Interpol, Weezer, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more. I was one proud mama. They all did such a GREAT job…..
So, now my guys are talking about continuing on with their band and doing gigs all around — for $$$. I say, HELL YEA, go for it. They are so into it and do so well together – why not?
My oldest son Tony who is in college was at the performance and now he says he thinks his brothers’ band needs an electric keyboard player…*hint hint* :)
Oh, and I reminded them that their mom loves to sing…..
This can be a family thing, right?

AGAIN.
I only have a few minutes as I am heading out the door for my two younger sons music lessons – Phillip plays bass guitar and Joseph the drums. Mind you I left the house at 9 this morning to take my oldest son Tony who is home from college to a doctor appointment AND my youngest Joseph to a doctor appointment AND to run several other errands while I was out, returning at 2:30pm.
I have a pounding headache, however, I shall go on.
Yes, I will drive for a half hour with my two sons to their lessons with the radio blaring rock music and then go to their lessons and listen to the bass guitar and the rockin’ drums and then I will get back into the car, drive home while listening to the radio blaring rock music…sounds like a good time don’t ya think?
Ok, I guess I should get my butt up off this chair and go…
Maybe the hubby will offer to tote this week and I will stay home and make the family dinner!
Can you say FROZEN PIZZAS…?!

Just shoot me.
How I ever agreed with my 11 year old son, Joseph, to invite a bunch of 10 and 11 year old boys for a (belated) birthday sleepover is beyond me. Don’t get me wrong – these are good kids and I love having them over – but all at once?! What the hell was I thinking? I wasn’t, that’s the problem.
After some pizza and garlic knots they decided to head down to the game room for some music – Blaring Punk Rock Music. I guess that got my son Joseph in the mood to entertain his guests, so the drums were rockin’-and-rollin’ for the next, oh…, HOUR.
Where the hell were my earplugs?
Then everyone up for an ice cream treat – Yay! Five minutes later – back down to the game room where not only Joseph entertained his friends, but his older brothers decided to join in on their electric and bass guitars for the next …HOUR.
Tylenol before bed did the trick.
One last check to say goodnight – I found them playing video games and listening to… more music, their heads bobbing up and down to the beat.
As I stood there quietly at the door unnoticed, I had to smile. What an awesome bunch of boys who have a great friendship together. I am one lucky mom who will get to watch these kids grow up and become fine young men…
By the way, I never did find the damn earplugs.

Ya know why?
I took her to the pediatrician today for a pre-op physical and she was hesitant most of the visit – when the nurse talked to her, she just stared her down – no expression. When the doctor talked to her – same. Then near the end of the visit she slowly loosened up and cracked a smile when the doctor was pressing on her tummy (she’s a ticklish little one).
So, the doctor exits and who enters but the nurse with a needle in hand – Yikes! I guess this little one is due for her MMR booster….OKAY.
It was over in about 10 seconds or less – Anna hopped up on my lap, I pulled up her sleeve, she turned her eyes to the nurse who was injecting the needle into her arm – AND WATCHED….The kid never even flinched. No tears, no screaming. The only words she uttered after that was, "Mom, I don’t think I want to be here."
One tough gal let me tell you…Now if only I could get my older sons to be that brave.

I just returned from Florida where I attended my grandmother’s funeral this past week. I will truly miss my grandmother – she was one terrific lady and the sweetest thing on this earth.
I was away for six days. We drove from the state of Vermont to the state of Florida in a GMC Yukon – Two straight days and nights there and two straight days and nights back (visiting family in Florida for 2 days). My three younger kids went along on the trip (leaving my two older sons home – am I nuts?!!).
Most think I am crazy to begin with for driving and not flying to Florida…I disagree. I enjoyed being couped up with a 14, 11 and 4 year old for hours on end in a vehicle singing Old MacDonald Had a Farm and listening to LOUD rock music – why wouldn’t I?
Heck, just think of all the wonderful reading one can accomplish from the millions of billboards along the way – There were a few dozey’s too, especially for my two younger sons to chuckle about that read, "We Bare All" Exit 49 and "Ultimate Massage" Exit 20, oh, and let’s not forget the wonderful billboard signs from HOOTERS with their eye-catching half dressed bimbos.
Then we had bathroom and food breaks every few hours…when the time came to get back in the car and strap in, my four year old daughter decided that she was going to walk. My sons were good with that decision…
The embarassment came from what we were driving – a filthy, mud and salt covered northern SUV. The further south we drove with clear blue skies and the sun shining brightly, we quickly began our search for a drive through car wash (this happened in the state of Virginia). The kids love this – it is, by far, their biggest excitement of the entire trip. After 3 minutes of a scrub-a-dub-dub, we were all pretty and sparkley again.
So, now we are home (Thank God) and back to our normal routine…and out of that car (which, by the way, is once again a filthy, mud and salt covered northern SUV!).
