Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year
December 19th, 2006 by Paula

OK.  It’s the 19th of December already — Holy S@#%  Well, at least my shopping is DONE, and the wrapping.  Now I need to find the damn apron that I dig up come Christmas time and get busy in the kitchen baking goodies.  Isn’t that one of your favorite things about the holidays…?  The GOODIES!  Yep.  As soon as January 1 hits I will be starving myself just to loose the 5 pounds I gained over the week of Christmas – but, it is well worth it!

As you may notice – NO podcast again this week.  I just have not had one extra minute this week with all the shopping, wrapping and picking kids up from college.  I plan to get back to my podcast the beginning of January with some cool mom sites, promise!

Speaking of kids in college…I picked up son #2 from UCONN the other day and son #1 is due home later this week from UMASS Amherst, however, son #1 is down with walking pnuemonia as we speak!  Ugh.  And the poor kid has 5 final exams this week to go with that walking pnuemonia!  I will be happy when Thursday gets here and son #1 is home so I can mother him properly :)

Happy Holidays to everyone and a healthy and happy New Year!!!  Bring on 2007!!!

Cheers,

~ Paula

15 more days and counting…
December 10th, 2006 by Paula

OH MY.  Am I even remotely close to being ready for the holidays…?  Hell NO! I am usually a fairly organized mother of five, but hey, I’ve slipped behind this year.  Oh, the holiday stress has taken over me and I have ANOTHER cold!  I was planning to post a podcast this weekend, however, I do NOT have a voice (I do have a violent cough though), just no voice.  So, here I am and I hope to post a What Did You Do All Day? podcast next week.

Since we are on the subject of holiday stress….here is a great site to check out for busy parents this season  http://www.momready.com/ – Also, be sure to check out the article on teacher holiday gifts (we can’t forget our wonderful teachers!).

Did I mention that I’m reading Running with Scissors…?  Whoa now.  Augusten had some childhood.  I don’t want to spoil his story (or the movie) but it is worth checking out for sure…

OK, I am off to do some online Christmas shopping…15 days and counting………..

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree…

you look so incredilbly lovely!

Well, it’s that time of year again and the house smells SO pretty! This past weekend we took the family out to our local tree farm, brought along our trusty saw, and hiked the land to find THE perfect Christmas tree for us.  Lo and behold as I was dragging along our four year old daughter, and while the boys and one of their friends (Benny) were playing GI Joe Army games and sneaking and hiding behind trees together, I hear the faint voice of my hubby in the distance "Come quick, I’ve found the tree!"

I yell to the boys to come help their father and then hike up the hill with Anna (my daughter) to see my husband standing next to a monstrous tree with a huge grin on his face.

"Oh, wow!  Umm, I thought you said this year we were looking for a smaller Christmas tree, dear?"

The hubby picked up his trusty saw and dropped to his knees and called for his helpers (the boys).

"THIS, Paula, is THE tree."  Wonderful.

After sawing the tree down, dragging it to the entrance and paying for the monster the owner of the tree farm informs us that our tree is a Spruce. Normally we look for a Balsam Fir, but hey, a Spruce is cool and this sucker is a 10 footer!

So, another year of our family tradition getting our Christmas tree :) Check it out!
