"I heard jingle bells, mama, I heard them on the roof last night when I got up to go potty…Did you hear them?"
This was the first thing Anna said to me on Christmas morning. She knew what she heard and she was so excited. I was all smiles for my almost 7 year old daughter. It reminds me of the Christmas story our family loves – The Polar Express For those who truly believe… Posted by: Paula on December 28th, 2008 | No Comments » Brrrrr…. …but it's been HOT in the house with my guys playing their instruments. They've entertained theirmom (and our street) with some Jimmy Hendrix, Cold Play, John Mayer, Weezer, Bob Marley, and of course, The Beatles. Posted by: Paula on December 23rd, 2008 | No Comments » They'll be parties for hosting (and getting hammered), marshmallows for toasting (or burning to a crisp), and caroling out in the snow (how 'bout freezing your ass off)…
…So, that was you Phil…You looked good. In my last post I had asked whose kid that was with the moustache and glasses and it turns out – it was mine….whatdya know. He was in disguise. They seem to pop up everywhere, out of the blue, my kids. Glad that mystery was solved…. I mentioned the other day that this was the weekend I would morph into the baking goddess – well, I did just that. Saturday I made all my Christmas breads, and I gotta say, they turned out pretty damn good. Not sure they will make it until Christmas morning for breakfast, however. Today, I made the cookies – my favorite! Of course I slaved in the kitchen for hours this afternoon, had all my children dipping their Hey, my guys are jammin on their guitars again (house is vibrating). Do I hear Cannon Rock!…Time for them to entertain their mama. Toodles…. Posted by: Paula on December 21st, 2008 | No Comments » I just realized today is Friday the 19th. Which brought me to my next thought — know where I'm going with this…? The next two – no wait, three weeks with kids around — ALL-THE-TIME. No breaks cause 'tis the season to be jolly….fa la la la la….yeah, OK. I'm quite sure that be the end of week one my brood will be ready to snap each others necks. Maybe. They just might make it to one week and one day but I'd be surprised. The boys are really going to love it when their sister Anna banana starts spouting off orders to them and keeping their butts organized. Hey, that's her job – it's truly a girl thing, ya know. Speaking of "tis the season…" 'Tis the season to have my rear planted in a basketball gym once again. Yes, the games have begun except this year, son number three is NOT playing the game. His decision. He'd rather go with Sarah (his gal) and be a spectator. He also wants to spend his time this winter working out at the gym, preparing for baseball season, his true love. OK for him. But this mom is sad. I love basketball, not to mention the smell of a gymnasium. Yea, I know, I'm strange. But all is not lost, no. Son number four is playing hoops this year and they won their first game! However, I was only able to watch about 25 minutes of the game as I then had to run to Anna bananas Christmas concert at her school which I truly enjoyed. Yes, Away in a Manger and Merry Christmas Bells were never sung so well and all the kids did such an awesome job (all the mommies and daddies should be so proud) ;) Posted by: Paula on December 19th, 2008 | No Comments » OK, so I've had a crazy So I'm reading John Grogan's book Marley & Me - Been wanting to read it for the past few months, heard more about it recently, and it's even a movie now so I figured I should buy the damn book and read it… in any spare time. Cute so far. We've got one of those doggies - a yellow lab. Except ours is the total opposite of Marley. Dog never gets excited, never barks. Really enjoys doing nothing and just lies around, drooling – or eating. Well shit. Guess I'm not lucky like John. One question for you – are you done with your holiday shopping? "I did Anna. It was such a beautiful sound."
"OK. Let's open presents!!!!"
We always start the morning by checking to see if Santa ate his cookies we left out for him (and he did – Santa was hungry this year – good Santa). And the carrots – gone. Rudolph gets hungry too. On to the stockings….

rotten hands in the Christmas cookie tins for a snack, and do I get a thank you? What do you think? They just kept dipping for more until I snapped the lids shut and took the tins – and hid them. I dunno…There's something comforting about being the only one in the house who knows where those Christmas cookie tins are right this minute…

I got to thinking about my holiday decorations today…actually, most of the decorations in my house are hand-me-downs from my mom (thank you mamacita!). I don't think I will ever outgrow Christmas decorating – I mean, the Santas, the Nutcrackers, the stockings, the angels and snowmen. And the tree. Our family room smells like one big pine tree. I hope to pass down our family Christmas decorations to my kids -hmmpf, whether they want them or not.

Six days and counting. Anna is so excited, it's cute at this age (6). She's a smart little cookie, nothing passes by her unnoticed. How the heck is jolly old Saint Nicholas getting down our rinky-dink fireplace in the basement? Good one. I think Saint Nick's lost a little weight this year. Yea. He's been cutting back on the milk and cookies so I don't think we should tempt him this year with any….well that didn't go over to big. It is in Anna's nature to care for things, feed things – over stuff things actually. Alrighty then. We won't forget to feed Santa – and Rudolph and his buds – you know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen….Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen…..
This is my slaving in the kitchen weekend – yep, making and baking the goodies. Cookies, breads, pies. Time to drag out the baggy jeans and frumpy sweatshirts as I'm sure to gain 2 5 or so pounds of fat. I gain it within three days and it takes three months – OK six – to burn it off, damnit. But it's all so good….too good. And I don't want to slave in my kitchen, make all the treats and not get any. Nope. I may even hide my own little stash this year…we moms deserve that, don't you think?

life week. Maybe, just maybe, PMS had something to do with it. Or the fact that I'm a mother with too many lots and lots of children. All I know is that I am going to F****** explode! THERE. That felt better.
For those who have asked (and thank you by the way), Joseph is doing much better. His spill on the ice last Thursday afternoon that ended in a rush to the ER for three+ hours, with a goose egg smack in the middle of his forehead, swelled nose and eyes, swelled and cut upper lip and loose teeth, with x-rays and cat scans really had his old mom freakin' freaked out! The diagnosis: A concussion. Sheesh. This child will be the DEATH OF ME.
Phil's Sarah is heading back to Korea for the winter break (3 weeks). We are all very sad to see her go :(I made a nice dinner and dessert last night for the occasion and she opened some gifts from us – such a great girl. Of course it was cute to watch the two of them (Phil and Sarah) chasing each other around the house playing tickles and seeing all the hugs when gifts were exchanged. True lovebirds they are.

Guess it's time to serve up the meatloaf for dinner…c'mon, meatloaf is wicked good. And the kids actually like my meatloaf.
