SAM Started It. Blog-Tag, Photo-Style
June 30th, 2009 by Paula

I’m a mom with five children. Four biological sons and one adopted daughter from Guatemala. I’m proud of all my children. They are each unique in their own special way. This brings me to my next subject – my youngest son, Joseph (he likes to be called Jay by the way). Joseph was born on March 2nd, 1995 in Greenville, South Carolina (that happens to be were we were living at the time).  Joseph was a planned C-section, no problem, right?  Well it didn’t turn out as planned. Oh the surgery went as planned, but after the delivery, Joseph became very ill. He turned purple, wheezing, and had trouble breathing.  I only got to see him once right after he was born and then he was whisked away by a nurse.  Joseph ended up in the NICU for 3 weeks, lung collapsed, tubes and monitors everywhere. Odd thing is, he was 8 1/2 pounds, the biggest sick baby in the NICU. Most of the other babies were three, four pounds tops.  Joseph’s diagnosis - pneumonia. Doctors told us as he was being delivered, he inhaled amniotic fluid and instantly became ill. I visited Joseph in the NICU twice a day, morning and night.  He was a tough little (guess I should say BIG compared to the preemies) guy, and a fighter, and he has never ceased to amaze us.

And this brings me to my next subject on Joseph and his sense of style and fashion design  :)

Joseph, our fashionable guy, and our fighter

Joseph, our fashionable guy, and our fighter

We never quite understood the look here.  Was he torn between summer and winter?  And what’s with the Michael Jackson one-handed glove look?  We saved this picture and tease him to this day that over the years his girlfriends will enjoy seeing his fashion creations.

Whenever I feel down and am in need of a pick-me-up, I know just who to turn to. Makes this mama smile, everytime.

Sam started this. I really dig the idea, so now I’m tagging Mary, Loren and Kelby.
Here are the rules ladies:
1) Go to your photo files… Select the 6th photo folder or album.
2) Select the 6th photo in that folder/album.
3) Post that photo along with the story behind it.
4) Then challenge some blog friends to do the same!
Have fun!

So I was invited the other day to the Clorox Green Works natural networking luncheon that will be held at BlogHer this July. Get this…”Lunch will be eco-friendly and vegetarian. Attendees will have the opportunity for high-level networking, ask Green Works representatives questions and engage in conversation, and receive an advance sneak preview of a new Green Works product that will be launched at BlogHer ‘09.”  Awesome. I already use some of their products which I love but I’m excited to get a sneak preview of something new from Green Works. (Not to mention an eco-friendly lunch!) Bring it on!

                                                                 I got my coupon!

A mixed bag of sorts
June 20th, 2009 by Paula

So Happy Father’s Day to all the daddies out there!  Tomorrow is your special day. My gang’s daddy is just going to take it easy, spend some time with the kiddos and enjoy a nice steak and potato dinner (salad and favorite ice cream) – along with some presents.  Tony, our oldest son, is driving over from the Boston area for the day so it will be great to have him home for Father’s Day.  I will be calling my dad who lives in Florida on the phone.  Wish we lived closer together!  What are you doing for Father’s Day this year?

OK, so has anyone heard of the Tattoo Factory in Chicago?  Me either. I recently heard the name when I was reading a blog regarding the BlogHer ‘09 conference that’s happening this summer. Appears this Tattoo Factory is offering 20% off for piercings and tattoos for BlogHer attendees the week of the conference. REALLY.  I just might have to check in to this dandy offer – stay tuned….

Everything is still on schedule for my trip to Chicago in July -

Ford Ride-and-Drive event (beware)

BlogHer conference (YES!)

• ParTays (oh yea, lots of these)

Vacationing with the fam :)

So looking forward to this trip and conference and meeting so many awesome bloggers for the first time!

Has everyone heard about another blogger’s conference Type-A Mom conference this September 24-27 in Asheville, NC?  I SO want to be there!  Bummed.  Truly bummed.  I just can’t make it then but if you can, GO!  Kelby Carr is a sweetheart and her conference will be kick ass. If you register by June 30th you can SAVE lots of money, so GET IT DONE, and enjoy the conference and send lil’ ol’ me some tweets and pics…K?

Dance to the music
June 14th, 2009 by Paula

It’s me. I know, I haven’t been around for awhile and I’ve missed ya’ll!  Just got off the phone with The Woodworker (hubby) who’s been gone for the past month on business in Algeria. Yes, I know, ALGERIA.  He’s in D.C. right now waiting at the airport for his flight to Vermont and we’ll be picking him up in a few hours…

So, I was a tad bored and a snippet curious the other night and I pulled up YouTube to listen to some music (music is in our blood and runs through our veins in this family) and watch some of the videos. Like Wowza!  Check out some of the tunes (and videos) I dig….

An oldie but goodie for sure. Got me movin’

Some mama rants
June 7th, 2009 by Paula

So my UCONN gang just left (Nick and his friend, Jenna). We had a nice visit. It goes by quickly. Always does. They both have to work tomorrow at their summer jobs and Nicky needs the money!  Thanks for the visit  xoxoxo

My son Tony sent me an email the other day saying that he received an email with more graduation pictures. He forwarded the email to me and they are offering more pictures to purchase from the UMASS graduation.  So, of course, sucker mom that I am, I’m buying several. You betcha. Here’s a couple shots of the big guy on his big day…

My son Joseph will be graduating from 8th grade in one week.  OMG.  This really is happening!  Anyway, I was really thrilled and proud to hear that the principal of his middle school has asked Joseph to play the guitar at their graduation and he could pick someone else he wanted to play with him.  He said yes, and he has picked his brother Phillip to play with him at his graduation.  I’m one proud mamacita :)

It’s hard to say goodbye and the nosy neighbor
June 2nd, 2009 by Paula

A person can only take so much. I am that person right now. I’ve had enough. I’m talking about my neighbor. My annoying, nosy neighbor. I’ve been polite. I’ve kept my mouth shut and put up with lots. She’s crossed the line and I’m pissed. It’s funny, the hubby had enough of her long ago and he just laughs her nosiness (is that even a word?) off. Let’s it slide right off his shoulder and ignores her. How can he do that? She steams me right up. Always telling us how to care for our dogs – and what we are doing wrong. She comes over constantly knocking at our door….I think the dogs need more water. I’m worried about the dogs, it’s raining (a slight drizzle) and they will get wet and catch a cold (they each have deluxe dog houses 6 inches away from them) They don’t have long enough leashes…..it goes on and on and on. Now onto The Rubbish. Thats right – our trash. The other day I get a phone call and she wanted to let me know that something got into our trash that was setting out and that a crow was pecking at the piece of trash that was on the ground next to the trash bag.WHAT? Get a life lady. If she had something to do other than watch out her windows and be into everyone else’s business, she might actually be quite a productive person. I’m guessing she has binoculars handy too. How does her husband put up with her? He seems to be a nice, quiet gentleman and neighbor. Friendly, but minds his own damn business. Can you tell I’m wound up? Sheesh.

Sarah has left for Korea to be with her family for the summer. My 17 year old son Phillip is lonely. She left yesterday and won’t return until mid August. We will all miss her. She is a sweetheart. Though she and I will probably email more than she and Phillip will. We get along super and that is so nice. We took her out to dinner the other night and had a lot of fun. Miss you Sarah :(

Oh, about that Ford Ride-and-Drive event in Chicago July 23rd that I mentioned the other day…?  Guess who’s going to be driving a Ford?!!!  I’m in and I’m so excited!!! More details soon! Thanks Ford and BlogHer :)
