Mom-Owned Magazine & Media Firm Unite

(St. Johnsbury, VT – Sept. 29, 2009) In a display of cooperation and consolidation, two of the nation’s leading mom-branded media organizations have joined forces. Mamapalooza, Inc. a mother-owned and operated multimedia firm, and Mom Writers Literary magazine (MWLM), a showcase for women writers, have forged a new partnership to develop Mamazina Magazine.  The result of this merger is a new publication that combines the best of both efforts and not only showcases women writers and the travails of parenthood, but also creates a strong platform for mom-branded art, culture and business.

Mamapalooza is well known for producing hundreds of Family Festivals, Baby and Green Expos, and Mom’s Night Out Events. Since 2002 Mamapalooza has been the leader in tailor-made mom events that focus on art, business and activism. Mamapalooza founder Joy Rose, an award-winning singer, writer and motivational speaker, uses her unique brand of successful mother events to celebrate, support and connect mothers across the country.

In 2005 Paula Schmitt founded Mom Writer’s Literary Magazine to honor and celebrate the challenges, joys and triumphs mothers face, by making their stories visible through print. MWLM highlights established authors, and new, breakthrough female writers by providing a creative forum through which they can communicate with moms everywhere.

“Our two organizations share so many of the same values, and we both want to empower moms and provide them not only with an outlet for their amazing creativity, but also a way to network, bond and share ideas with one other,” said Mamapalooza founder Joy Rose.  “With MWLM’s stable of excellent mom writers, and Mamapalooza’s calendar of mom-branded events, we knew that we could reach more moms with a message of encouragement and a forum of practical advice, all while providing resources on a much grander scale if we formed this special partnership,” said Paula Schmitt, founder of Mom Writer’s Literary Magazine.

The result of this joint venture will be a bi-annual magazine called Mamazina – Women’s Voices Unite.  Formatted similar to MWLM, Mamazina will be a broader based publication with new sections to cover the modern marketplace and a mom-made catalogue of products. Joy Rose and Paula Schmitt will serve as Mamazina co-founders and act as Publisher and Director respectively. MWLM’s original staff will transition to the new publication, and new positions will be added as additional market areas come on board. One area of near term focus for the Mamazina team will be to reach the Hispanic market with new material and translated content.

As MWLM transitions to Mamazina, subscribers who have pre-purchased the fall issue of MWLM will receive the most recent copy of Mamapalooza Mamazine and an accompanying CD in place of the regularly scheduled MWLM. Select pieces also will be electronically published on the Mamazina Web site by early November.

The inaugural issue of Mamazina – Women’s Voices Unite will debut in Spring 2010. It will include literary, creative and art content, along with a catalog section.  The new publication also will feature new editors, merchandising experts, artists and writers. Co-Founders Rose and Schmitt stand committed to their new mission statement: “To honor and celebrate the challenges, joys and triumphs mothers face by making their stories visible through print. Written by moms for moms across the globe, Mamazina – Women’s Voices Unite will share stories, celebrate triumphs and comfort the weary moms trying so hard to get it right.” For more information, please visit www.mamapalooza.com, www.MomWritersLitMag.com, or follow on Twitter at twitter.com/momwriterlitmag, twitter.com/MAMAPALOOZA

The nosey neighbors strike again

Well this might be a first.  Twice in one day.  But I need to vent…

It’s my ridiculous neighbors, again.  I think I posted once before about this problem but I have never, ever, had  neighbors that are so nosey, bitchy, and catty as these neighbors are.  The men (their husbands) are fine. They are friendly but keep to themselves and don’t get into our business and watch everything we do and every move we make.  Though the two husbands have stopped saying hello to us as I’m sure they have been instructed by their witchy wives to not speak a word to us.  The two ladies, I’ll call them Henny and Penny (perfect!) are stuck like glue to each other and yak and gossip continually in their same stance, hands on hips, heads up and mouths going 100 miles an hour.  I feel SORRY for them. My husband laughs and tells me they are jealous.  Jealous?  Jealous of what?!  The hubby just looks me up and down and smiles.  Funny.  So tonight the hubby and I are outside in our drive talking and what do we see?  Henny and Penny outside yakking to someone in a car and they are whispering and staring over at us.  WTF?!!  Mind your own GD business.  For those who know me, I am a very soft-spoken and kind person. I don’t butt into anyone’s business as I don’t care to.  WHY would these hags care to butt into our business?  When we first moved here I was pleasant and kind and they were , well, just nosey and loud.  I could only put up with that crap for so long.  I really have no clue how their husbands can live with them.  So of course tonight the hubby and I just ignored them, the hubby laughed it off and I – well, I’m here venting.

Next time this happens I will be speaking my mind directly to them.  Henny and Penny, don’t mess with me!  Hmpfff.

Autumn in Vermont and the big news
September 24th, 2009 by Paula

OK.  So it’s been three weeks today.  I’m really getting bad at this.  I want to write to ya’ll but not at two in the morning!

I had a very nice “29th” birthday *wink wink*  three weeks ago.  They come and go so quickly.  School is going well for the kids and soon we will be off on college tours through the month of October for our son Phillip.  His major will be music and I am so psyched!  He will be applying to colleges with great music programs and I think he is very ready to get started.  I’m excited for him but yet, I don’t want to let him go…

Autumn is here, my favorite, favorite time of year here in Vermont!  This mama can plan.  I’ve organized and mapped out some fall foliage/festival road trips for our family over the next few weeks and this weekend we are on our way to Oktoberfest in Stowe, VT!  I’ll be the hungry mom looking for the Knockwurst and Bavarian desserts.

So I’m missing the Type-A Mom conference this weekend in Asheville, NC.  Poo!  Hugs to Kelby as this is her first Type-A Mom conference but I know it will be kick-ass.  Plus Asheville?!  Heard it is gorgeous there… To all the moms that are going – have an awesome time!

Oh, I got a new car.  A black Buick Enclave (crossover) and I LOVE it!  The over-sized gas guzzling SUV had to go.  Plus I didn’t need anything that big anymore, it sat 9 people!  The Buick seats 7, has black leather seats and a GPS, plus I can watch a screen on my dash and see behind me when I am backing up (cool!) and it has Sirius XM radio (a total necessity).

Now for my huge news, and no, I’m not pregnant.  My online and print magazine Mom Writers Literary Magazine has partnered with the one and only MAMAPALOOZA, INC!  I’ve been smiling for three weeks dude.  Mamapalooza’s founder, Joy Rose, and I have been brainstorming for weeks and planning our new joint venture.  Our public announcement with all the information will go out early next week so watch for us and please write and comment to us, we’d love, love, love to hear from ya’ll!  MOMS ROCK!

Now I’m off to enjoy the crisp fall weather and beautiful colors.  You really should come to Vermont….really.

HELLO it’s me…

“I’ve thought about us for a long, long time.  Maybe I think too much but something’s wrong. There’s something here that doesn’t last too long…”

Oops, got off track after my opening line, but I LOVE that classic rock song from the good ol’ 70’s by Todd Rundgren.  Wonder what he’s up to these days?

Well, damn.  I’ve got another birthday coming up in like, two days.  I don’t even want to think about it.  Really.  Go ahead ya’ll, you can send me all the birthday wishes your heart desires, I won’t mind, it’s just that, I DON’T WANT TO GET ANY OLDER NOW.  Enough is enough and the years are really creeping up on me now.  I just want to stay 29, forever.  :)

Just reminded by the hubby that my birthday is only two days away!

Paula What another bday

Me after reminding the hubby that I’ll be 29 this next birthday  ;)

Paula happy to stay 29 forever 9-09

On a happier note…we took the fam last weekend to Lake Winnipesaukee, NH.  It was chilly!  Wish we could have stayed longer…

Time to hit the treadmill and read.  Just finished reading Jen Weiner’s Best Friends Forever which I highly recommend.  Next – Jodi Picoult’s The Pact.

More exciting news coming soon…..
